Jacob's Ladder

Here is a pretty little trick which anyone can perform. It requires merely a few strips of paper and a pair of scissors. There is very little trouble in the preparation of the trick and the result is more than worth it.

What You'll Need

How To Do It

Step 1

Take a newspaper and open it out so as to get a sheet of paper as long as the width of two pages. Cut off a strip about four inches wide.

Step 2

Now roll this strip from one end into a cylinder about half an inch in diameter on the inside. Don't roll the cylinder too tightly.

Step 2 Image

Step 3

Now cut out the middle portion of this cylinder, as shown in figure 1. When this part has been cut out, bend the ends of the cylinder down, as in figure 2.

Step 3 Image

Step 4

Now pull out the insides of these cylinders, working each side out a little at a time, and you will find that the result is the pretty ladder shown in figure 3.

Step 4 Image

Step 5

This can be drawn to an astonishing length, depending on the length of the newspaper used.

Step 5 Image

Step 6

To make a lovely variation on the original ladder, roll the cylinder as at first and then make the cuts shown in figure 5.

Step 7

Bends the ends down as you did before, and then bend the little flaps out as in figure 6. When pulled out you will get the ladder as in figure 4.
