New Handipoints Features

Filed under: Making It Work, answering your questions, using handipoints — vivachu @ 4:58 pm

This post is to share with you new features that we have planned for the site and for you to share your suggestions on new features that you would like us to add to the site.

Parent Features planned as of September 2007:

  • Sorting: The ability to choose a custom sort order for the tasks that appear on a chart.
  • Edit Tasks: A way to edit tasks directly on the chore chart without having to delete them and add them back again.
  • Edit Points: A way to edit the Handipoints value of a graded task directly on the Balance Sheet without having to delete it and complete/grade it again.

Kid Features planned as of September 2007:

  • HandiLand: HandiLand will be a virtual world where kids can direct their Cool Cat character to walk around and go into different rooms. There will be rooms in HandiLand where you can bring up your Task Chart, your Mission page, Stamps and Cartoon Theatre. Kids will be able to meet their friends in HandiLand and trade their stamps, clothing, and other items they collect in HandiLand.
  • Cartoon Theatre: Every kid will receive free cartoons of Milo and Petals every month that they can watch in the HandiLand Theatre.
  • Hidden Surprises in the Task Chart: Kids will randomly win rare costumes and stamps for completing special tasks.

If You Have Something Nice To Say, Here Is The Place

Filed under: Basics, answering your questions — Chris @ 11:49 pm

I have an idea… how about we talk about things we LIKE about the new handipoints site?

I love the new Handiland. I especially think younger kids will like earning the bonus points to buy things for their cat in the cat-a-log. Go to the Dressing Room to not only chose clothing items for their cat, but to chose what sort of cat they have. All the choices also give a brief description of the breed.

My other favorite thing about Handiland is the stamps and stamp collection books. Slightly older kids will love this. I know my 6 and 8 yr olds love collecting things, anything. Having a collection is the ultimate of cool to them.

So tell me what do you like? Do you have any questions about Handiland?

Answering your questions

Filed under: answering your questions — Chris @ 8:09 am

The question:

Once all the necessary Handipoints have been deposited into the goal – How do you show the goal has been achieved and the reward redeemed?

The answer:

(If you are not sure how many handipoints have been earned, first click on the balance sheets tab. That will give you the number of handipoints and bonus points that have been earned.)

To deposit the handipoints toward a goal click on the Savings Goal tab up at the top. That will pull up whatever your children are saving for. Click on the item you want to put the points toward.

Then you will be told how many handipoints it is going to cost and how many you still need to earn the reward.

Deposit the number that you want to put toward that particular reward.

As you deposit points into your goal, the bar goes up relative to your total deposit amount. Once the child has fulfilled the goal or reached 100%, then there is an understanding that you will “redeem” the goal for your child.

So after you have done that, how do you show that it has been earned and redeemed? I am assuming that you mean is there some sort of fanfare, like a certificate, or a video, or fireworks shooting out of your monitor or a skywriter driving by your house and writing “HURRAY!” in the sky? Personally I’d like a mariachi band to come by and play on my front lawn and hand ME a margarita.

The answer though is no.

Once the child has “redeemed” the goal, you can delete the goal from the savings goal list. When you delete a savings goal, the deposits and withdrawals on that goal are not deleted. Therefore the record of the child spending points on the goal remain in tact and you are free to create more goals for the child to work towards.

Does that help? Any more questions? Bring ‘em on.

And you know, if you have anything that you DO like, please feel free to share that too :-)

Answering Your Questions

Filed under: answering your questions, using handipoints — Chris @ 11:24 pm

The question:

The only way that I saw to Edit a task as far as which days I want it for is to delete it and re-add it with the correct days checked. Is there a way to add a button that says “All Days”. It’s silly but it is time consuming to check all 7 days for lots of tasks.

The answer:

I think that you are right.  Remember I am on the learning curve with you here.  I also noticed that once you grade a task you can’t go back and change the grade.  Guess I need to read more thoroughly before clicking.  Sounds like something I am always telling my kids.

I think having a button to click all days would be a great idea, not silly at all, since many chores are daily things.
