Picky Eating Brought to a New Level

Filed under: Children, On The Web, parenting — Chris @ 10:50 pm

A boy in the UK who only eats one thing, yogurt.  Yes, that is it.  For every meal and snack he eats smooth yogurt.

That is just weird, isn’t it?  In the article the parents say that they have been told by doctors not to worry about it, but how could you not worry?  I think I would be panicked if my child refused to eat anything but yogurt.  I wrote about picky eating before and how the experts say that you just need to ride it out and eventually they will eat new foods.

But I have to imagine that they don’t mean a child who has only ever eaten one food in their entire life.  It seems like there must be some underlying medical condition.  I know my kids would love to eat nothing but ice cream every single day, but I am willing to bet that after a day (or two, or three) of unchecked access to it that they would begin to grow weary of it.

  1. That’s very worrisome to me; he’s missing so much nutrition.

I did something similar, as a toddler and I developed “milk anemia” because I wasn’t getting the iron my body needed.

I’m still a very picky eater.

  2. I have a very normal 2yr old who barely eats anything. He will literally sit at the table and not eat anything while everyone else eats. He has always been this way. He’s small, but healthy. He could live on cheese and juice. I would love for him to eat everything on his plate like his siblings, but you can’t force feed them. He is growing, albeit slowly. When he stopped breastfeeding, I started to sneak a liquid vitamin into his sippy of juice. He does eat other things, but it takes a lot of work and patience to find things he will eat. For example, he will only eat one kind of soup. I continue to offer him other kinds, he just won’t eat them. He loves chocolate, so one time when he hadn’t eaten for days, I got him to eat a few pieces of chocolate. I just felt better knowing he was getting some sort of nutrition, even if it wasn’t ideal.

  3. My almost 2 year old is not picky but sometimes he doesn’t eat at all. We will sit down to eat and he might eat a bite and that is it. I don’t feel he is gaining weight or getting bigger like he should but doctors say he is fine. I would like it if he would eat a lot of yogurt, at least he would be eating something. I am at my wits end with him. I have no idea how to make him eat. My nephews are 4 months younger and about a year younger than my son and they BOTH weigh about 10 pounds more than my son. :(
