Ratatouille

Today I surprised the kids and brought them to see Ratatouille. I thought it was ironic that I had cooking and Hell’s Kitchen on my brain and chose a cooking movie. I really had no idea what the movie was going to be about.

Today was also the first time I brought my 2 yr old to the movies. I have always wondered if he would sit still long enough to watch a movie. The answer is– Yes, he will sit still. For about 15 minutes. And then he proceeded to torture me for the next 45 minutes before he fell asleep in my arms. Then I was trapped for the next hour. Soon I had lost all feelings to my arms. But I did not dare move until the final credits rolled, at which point I stood up and almost dropped him.

The beginning of the movie with the gun toting old lady surprised me for it’s intensity. “Why him shooting him’s mice!” my son kept saying.

And when all the rats fell out of the ceiling I had the intense heebee jeebies. The whole movie I couldn’t get over the thought of rats touching the food. Yuck!

After the movies was over we were discussing it on the way home.

“You know, I just don’t buy the ending. Why would the food critic not mind that a rat was cooking the food? I just find that hard to believe.” I said.

“Buuuuuut, you can believe that a rat communicates with a man and hangs out under his hat showing him how to cook?” my son said.

“I guess I can only suspend my disbelief so far, before I am pushed to the edge. The food critic was the final straw.” I answered, laughing. Because really, it is a cartoon.

In other news, tonight we are having pasta topped with homemade sauce and sausage, not cooked by me. Maybe I should be checking under my son’s baseball hat.
