The weather in my neck of the woods has suddenly turned cool. The inside of my house is downright cold, because I refuse to turn on the heat already. REFUSE. There will plenty of month to bleed money in the future, not to mention the fact that come February I will wish it were this warm in my house.
Having said that, I love Fall. It is by far my favorite season.
I love wearing sweaters, going apple picking, hay rides at the pumpkin patch, the colors, the cool crisp mornings that give way to warm afternoons, the way the sky is always a bright blue. I only wish it stayed like this and didn’t turn into winter.
This year for the first time we are going to a corn maze. I have never been to one. I’ll admit I have this irrational fear of mazes, partially leftover from watching The Shining at a far too young age. But also the idea of being lost, even in a self contained corn maze, makes me feel slightly claustrophobic.
So what are your favorite parts of Fall? Do you have any fun and interesting traditions to share?

After reading this post I thought about our fall traditions. Usually we as a family go to the apple farm and purchase apples. I say usually because last year this didn’t happen. Why you ask? Because I was pregnant and crabby. But we still stopped at the apple farm and purchased a bottle of wine.
Our fall tradition is mom buying a bottle of Delaware wine. Happens every year, like clockwork.

Living in the Deep South I long for those acitvies you talk about. It is hard to pick apples when, 1. you don’t think apples grow in such hot weather and 2.by the time you finished you would be swimming in your own sweat.
However, I do enjoy the fall activites we do have. This is the time for many festivals, because the weather is bearable. This means good food and good music. I am finally going to make it one of the biggest festival in the state and see what all the fuss is about. We are going to seek out a true pumpkin patch, because pictures of the kids and pumpkins at the grocery store are not the same. It, also, is the time we actually get to enjoy the outdoors without dropping from the heat.
I love fall and our winter. The air is crisp and I seem to have tons of energy to get everything done. I am hoping for a cool Halloween with no mosquitoes. I can sit on the porch hand out candy and the husband can drag the kids to the houses until the drop from exhaustion. Besides, it will be our son’s first true Halloween. Last year he just drooled into the bucket and then fell asleep.

I, too, love fall. We went yesterday to the apple orchard and picked all the apples we could carry and ate fresh donuts and cider. There is nothing better! We will also take a bike ride through a nearby winding road with lots of beautiful trees that seem to already be changing colors…

We are going to go to a farm that is located in the middle of San Jose, we will pick out pumpkins, go on a hay ride and climb on hay stacks
My four year old was just asking me when are we going to go to the pumpin patch we went to when he was a tiny baby- which was just a year ago….

Hands down, Autumn is my favourite season of the year. I think I like the Autumn leaves the best of all–their gorgeous colours and their lovely sweet smell. We have so many Autumn traditions in our family, top of the list being “gathering”: pretty leaves to make pictures out of or just use as a centre piece on the table, pretty pine cones to pile in baskets or use later for crafting Christmas tree ornaments, Kastanien (have no idea what these are called in English, they are some sort of inedible nut which fall from the trees. The kids feed them to animals in the zoo or make crafts from them), apple picking, etc. On Sunday, we made a small bike tour and picnic through the fields and found a walnut tree along the path and we filled one of our bike baskets up with fresh walnuts. At our Kindergarten, the kids are eating the fruit from the fruit trees in the garden. We are also starting to collect pumpkins–for carving, painting and making into pies.
I could write a book on this, LOL. I LOVE Autumn.
